Jake Cornish, Liberty Poole in Love Island All Stars
iTV / Youtube

Was it all too much? After the shocking premiere of series 11, many Love Island fans might be wondering why Jake left Love Island: All Stars after seeing his ex.

Love Island UK, which is the original Love Island, premiered in 2005 on ITV, but it wasn’t until it was rebooted in 2015 for ITV2 that it became the reality TV dating show we know and love today. Since it was rebooted in 2015, Love Island UK has aired seven seasons and led to dozens of international spinoffs in countries like the United States, Australia, South Africa and Spain.

The show, which is one of the highest-rated series in the UK, has also led to real-life marriages and babies for couples who met as contestants such as season 2’s Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey, who are married and share two children, and season 3’s Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt, who welcomed a baby in 2020.

So, why did Jake leave Love Island: All Stars? Did it have to do with seeing his ex for the first time since their break up? Read more to find out.

Why did Jake leave Love Island: All Stars?

Jake voluntarily left Love Island: All-Stars after discovering the public had coupled him up with his ex Liberty Poole. The pair notoriously broke up days before the end of series 7.

When they saw that they were paired up just hours after the series started, Jake shook his head and said, “What are the chances?”

He told his co-stars that there “was never any bad blood” between him and Liberty and added that there’s “probably a chat to be done”. In a confessional, Jake said, “Me and Lib left the show, not seen her about, not spoke to her, but I’ve definitely matured massively. Older, bigger, wiser, better looking.”

Liberty said her side of the story: “I was on series seven. I’m probably best known for breaking up with my ex Jake a few days before the finals.”

A source told The Sun that he was ready to take on the Love Island villa again, but was stunned by how they ended up together. “Jake was really shocked to see Liberty in the villa – they had no idea the other person would be there,” the source said. “It was clear from the start they wouldn’t get back together, then none of the girls wanted to step forward for him.”

The source continued, “Jake had a nice three days in the villa and had a very emotional chat to Maya Jama. Jake couldn’t stay in the villa so he quit the show – it’s not his time and it’s not the right time to find love.”

In an interview before the show aired, Jake said that there was never anything bad between him and his ex. “We never ended with any bad blood between us and everything happens for a reason. We just become two different people in the end.”

Meanwhile, Liberty is protecting her peace this time around. “I always wear my heart on my sleeve but seem to end up getting hurt. I often say I’ll have my guard up but I’ll probably get in there and fall in love after a week. I’m always just quite tunnel vision when it comes to love, if I really like someone I can’t multitask.”
