As the most highly-anticipated book-to-film adaptation in the BookTok era, Colleen Hoover fans will no doubt be flocking to see It Ends With Us. They’re also wondering whether the book’s sequel, It Stars With Us, will be turned into a movie as well.

It Ends With Us follows Lily Bloom, who meets and falls in love with Ryle Kincaid. While their relationship begins passionately, as it deepens, Ryle’s darker, abusive side emerges. All the while, her first love from high school, Atlas, has been secretly pining for her since they were teenagers.
When Lily finally leaves Ryle, the closing moments of the film and book indicate that she and Atlas will get the happy ending they deserve and this relationship is explored in It Starts With Us. Here’s what the cast has said about a sequel.
It’s likely Sony is seeing how It Ends With Us will go commercially first, because as far as we can tell, the studio has only bought the rights to the first book. As of August 9, the film has brought in $7 million in previews, per Variety, and it’s projected to make between $25 million and $35 million, even up to $50 million.
That being said, it sounds like the cast is very much on board (if they can sort out whatever supposed beef is going on between Baldoni and Lively), according to various interviews they’ve each given during the press tour and premiere.

Baldoni, who stars as Ryle and serves as the film’s director, weighed in on whether he’d return as director. “You’re gonna have to ask me in a little while. We’re gonna take a vacation after this,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I think there are better people for that one. I think Blake Lively is ready to direct. That’s what I think.”
When asked about that suggestion, Hoover told ET, “I had the best time working with everyone on this movie. I think whoever decides to take charge of the next one would do it justice. I think they’re all in it for the right reasons, so I think that will be exciting. But it’s a lot of people to get the same schedules together again, so we’ll see,” she said.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of the It Ends With Us premiere, Brandon Sklenar, who plays adult Atlas, shared his feelings on a sequel. “I’d love to do it, if this thing hits,” he said. “I think it’s a beautiful book and I would love to get into Atlas’ life more—his mother and his relationship with her. I think it would be brilliant.”
