Mormon Wives‘ Taylor & Her Ex-Husband’s Swinging Scandal Was the ‘Tip of the Iceberg’ of Their Marital Problems
In 2022, a “soft swinging” scandal rocked a Mormon community in Utah. The marriage between Taylor Frankie Paul and her now ex-husband, Tate, suffered as a consequence and now, the real reason for their divorce has come to light.

Taylor, who was popular for sharing content about her family and lifestyle on TikTok under the #Momtok tag, admitted publicly that she and her husband were involved in “soft swinging” with other couples in their friend group—a term for a type of swinging where couples engage in sexual activities but with boundaries, such as no full intercourse with people outside of their marriage.
The revelations caused a sensation on social media, drawing widespread attention and criticism. Many were shocked by the behavior, especially given the conservative values typically associated with the Mormon community. The scandal highlighted the complexities of navigating unconventional relationships within a religious framework and largely contributed to the breakdown of Taylor and Tate’s marriage.
Why did Taylor Paul and her husband Tate divorce?
Taylor confessed that she had crossed the boundaries set within the soft-swinging arrangement by engaging in full sexual intercourse with someone outside of her marriage. While this swinging scandal certainly was the catalyst for their split, Taylor has since revealed that their marital problems went deeper.
“The divorce is not like, all because of this huge blow-up [within our friend group]. It was more ’cause I feel like we had a lot of other issues, and then this was the tip of the iceberg,” she said during a TikTok livestream.
Then, in an interview with Distractify, Taylor revealed that Tate did not want to be a part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, a new reality show on Hulu that explores the swinging scandal and the lives of these women in greater detail.
“He didn’t want them on the show,” she explained about Tate’s and their children’s absence from the show. “It is kind of tricky,” she admitted. “Because I am a mom, and I do want to showcase that side of me.” She went on to add that Tate has happily moved on with another. “My ex is doing great as far as I know,” she shared “I love him and his partner, [who is his] fiance, I believe.”
Reflecting on the scandal with Mamamia, Taylor explained, “No one was innocent. Everyone has hooked up with everyone in this situation. So, yes, I’m getting shunned for doing that, but it wasn’t like I was going around hooking up with my friend’s husband,” she said.
“I was friends with these people, and we spent a lot of time together. We were intimate on several occasions. Tate has made out with several girls and [done] other things, and I’ve made out with all of the husbands and [done] other things. … We had an agreement, like all of us, and I did step out of that agreement. That’s where I messed up, and I, obviously, am losing everything that I have.”
