Wait, Is Quinn (spoiler alert!) alive or dead?

The last two seasons of Homeland have taken us fans to various corners of the globe—most recently Pakistan and Germany—but it looks like we’re headed back to the series’ namesake. Showtime’s David Nevins dished about the show’s upcoming sixth season at the Television Critics Association’s press tour this week, revealing it’ll be “set domestically, primarily in the New York area.”

Programming president Gary Levine added, “We are in awe of how [show runner] Alex Gansa and his writing staff reinvent Homeland each year. And I think it’s exciting to see what they’re going to do in bringing it back to the United States and reinvent it yet again.”

Exciting, sure, but not AS exciting as the bit of intel they kiiiind of let drop about the fate of beloved character Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). While Nevins declined to comment whether the character—SPOILER ALERT—is alive or dead, Levine gave fans a glimmer of hope that the sniper pulled through after Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) removed his pulse monitor before—probably—pulling the plug.

“Quinn is severely damaged. There is no question about that,” Levine said. “So the life‑or‑death question remains, but it will not be—if he should live, it will not be in any way, shape, or form the way he has lived to date.”

There you have it, fans. We might just have to suspend our disbelief and pretend a lethal dose of sarin gas by Syrian terrorists followed by a brain hemorrhage really isn’t a one-way ticket to heaven.
