Emma Stone to Star as Cruella de Vil in Upcoming Disney Remake
To see her is to take a sudden chill: Soon, those lyrics will refer to none other than the bubbly, hazel-eyed Emma Stone, who was just confirmed to play Cruella de Vil in Disney‘s upcoming Cruella. Though execs have been tight-lipped about details of the film, which is set to release some time between next year and 2019 (we know, super specific), the star seems excited about the role, as the Daily Mail reports.
British screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who adapted Fifty Shades of Grey for the screen, is the screenwriter for this puppy-hating remake, according to Entertainment Weekly, which should make things … interesting. Sounds like this version will tell the chain-smoking, fur-loving Cruella’s origin story, and perhaps it’ll shed some light on how, exactly, she became so horrible. TBD re: BDSM plot points, but we’re guessing not.
If you’re having trouble picturing the normally peppy Stone as an evil baddy, E! News reimagined a few snaps of the actress as Cruella. And Glamour offered “definitive proof” that Stone is perfect for the role. The jury is out, but let’s all collectively cross our fingers that she trumps Glenn Close in the 1996 version of 101 Dalmations. One thing is for sure: She has to have black-and-white hair—right?!
