In a night that sparkled with star power, Zendaya’s naked dress once again proved that she always understands the assignment. The Euphoria actress attended the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, paying homage to the legendary Cher in a vintage Bob Mackie creation.

The dress, plucked from Mackie’s fall 2001 couture collection aptly named “Foreign Intrigue,” was a masterpiece of barely-there glamour. The gown featured a daring halter neckline and strategically placed crisscrossing straps that left little to the imagination. Its sheer, low-rise skirt with a thigh-high slit also allowed Zendaya to show off her statuesque figure. But the real magic was in the details: the entire dress was hand-beaded with a dazzling array of gold, diamond, and iridescent bugle beads, as well as aurora-borealis stones.

Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, shared insights into the outfit choice on Instagram, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship that went into the vintage piece. The duo’s decision to go with a Mackie original was a thoughtful tribute to the designer’s long-standing collaboration with Cher, reminiscent of the iconic looks he created for the singer throughout her career.

To complete her look, Zendaya donned a white silk-satin trench coat, also embroidered with matching embellishments. She also wore a pair of sky-high gold Christian Louboutin heels, a stack of gold bangles, and long, pin-straight hair—a signature Cher look. Her makeup was simple and clean, allowing the dress to take center stage.

During the ceremony, Zendaya had the honor of inducting Cher into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In her speech, she captured the essence of the music icon’s impact, stating, “Where do I even begin? Cher is not one person. Her name is just as legendary as her legacy.”

Cher fans might have a bit of déjà vu looking at Zendaya’s naked dress, as it bears a striking resemblance to a golden gown Cher herself wore during a 1975 performance. In that memorable TV moment, Cher belted out “I’m a Woman” alongside actress Raquel Welch on The Cher Show, donning a similarly stunning Bob Mackie creation. Interestingly, that particular dress from Cher’s personal collection later sold for $5,100 at a Julien’s Auctions sale.

Many of Cher’s most memorable looks, also created by Bob Mackie, are currently on display in an exhibit at the Hall of Fame—making Zendaya’s outfit selection all the more poignant.
