Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance garnered so much attention for a variety of reasons — the choreography, the dancer waving the Sudan Gaza flag, the Drake diss, SZA’s appearance — but undeniably, there was also the denim. Apparent on first glance was the gorgeous fit of Kendrick’s show-stealing jeans, which were made by Celine, by the way.
The jeans themselves were a medium light wash with a fitted thigh and a gentle flare on the way down. They were also longer on the inseam, which made it so that they flowed around the bottoms of his sneakers when he walked. Not necessarily the most practical length, but a longer jean is pretty trendy right now, so you kind of just have to make peace with the fact that the lower hem will get ruined if you’re walking around. They moved perfectly with the rapper’s body as he performed, and ultimately fit in a way that looked like they were tailored for him, which likely they were. The specific cut of the jeans he wore are Celine’s Serge jeans, inspired by Serge Gainsbourg, and designed by Hedi Slimane for a 2019 show.
To get a fit like that, the biggest tip I can give you is to try your jeans on in store. Obviously this is harder in the age of online shopping, but that’s just the truth. You’re going to want to get as close to a pure 100% cotton jean as possible. A lot of jeans are made with a bit of elastane to give it stretch, but that will just not give you this kind of fit and drape. You can choose whichever rise you’d like, but these specific jeans are mid-rise, and they have a light flare at the calf.
