The followers of the Olsens are some of the most devout people in the world. The thing is that they are both so private that when Ashley Olsen was seen leaving The Row’s offices in New York yesterday, her look was destined for a composition study.

Now to the untrained eye, you’re like, okay…she’s just wearing a plain black outfit, what’s the big deal? But to a curious student of design and iconography, Ashley Olsen’s fit is always a marvel. The two sisters, child actresses who now avoid the spotlight and value discretion and detail, are founders of one of the most celebrated designer brands. The Row is known for elevated basics and perfect design. So that being said, even if you can’t afford The Row, seeing and understanding how Ashley Olsen dresses may help those who are fans of her visual ethos develop a personal code for dressing. Now, onto it.

Olsen is wearing an oversized black workman’s jacket, very similar to, if not an exact piece from The Row in a different color. She paired the look with a black scarf, two large leather shopping totes, The Row’s Ingrid bag and Ben bag, and a pair of black leather flip flops that cost nearly $900.

Ashley Olsen tends to favor oversized silhouettes and loose-fitting clothes that drape over her small stature. Both she and her sister are known for wearing clothes that are unfussy, high quality, and focus on good design. Even if you’re not wearing The Row, and both Mary Kate and Ashley often wear other, less expensive brands as well, paying attention to what works for them might help you build a wardrobe collection that gives similar results.
