Cindy Crawford’s 13-Year-Old Daughter Kaia is Officially a Model
Shocker: The offspring of supermodel Cindy Crawford and her impossibly handsome husband Rande Gerber won the genetic lottery. We knew the couple’s 13-year-old daughter, Kaia, was lovely from rare paparazzi photos, but now it seems the fashion world has taken notice—she signed with modeling agency IMG and also landed a spread in Vogue Italia.
Gerber posted a photo from the high-fashion photo shoot, photographed by legend Steven Meisel, with the caption, “UNREAL.”
Mom Cindy also posted an image, writing “Guess I better watch my back…Love this shot of @KaiaGerber by #StevenMeisel for @VogueItalia!”
This might be the first official intro the public’s gotten to the teen, but it seems Kaia’s been primed for the spotlight for awhile.
At age ten, she appeared in the first ad campaign for Young Versace, the line’s range geared toward kids, which was fitting given her mom was a muse to the late Gianni Versace in the ’90s. Still, at that point Cindy spoke out about the Versace gig being a one-off, at least for a few years.
“At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl. But if she’s 17 and wants to try it…of course, what can I say? She’s really into singing and acting, Cindy told the Daily Front Row in 2012. “She kind of jokingly said—I’m not even sure if it was jokingly—‘I might model first because you don’t have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse,”
Clearly, Cindy changed her stance: Apart from signing with IMG, Kaia was name-checked in the latest issue of Town and Country, which highlighted a new crop it It-girls in its second annual Modern Swans issue, which included Lily Rose-Depp, Bella and Gigi Hadid and Sylvester Stallone’s teenage daughter Sistine.
Still, as gorgeous as she is, she is only 13, so here’s hoping she treats the spotlight with the same grace her mom did, and won’t become a teenaged tabloid target some people we know (*cough*Kylie Jenner.)
