Here’s how I see it: the summer sunglass trends for 2023 are by far the most helpful, interesting, and easy accessories you can have in your wardrobe. The shape, style, and color of your shades can transform your entire look and personality without much effort. Plus, they easily hide the fact that you may be puffy-eyed and hungover from a summer night out or an evening of listening to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
Because sunglasses can have such a profound impact on your overall vibe and appearance, they are a very personal thing to purchase. If a sunglass trend doesn’t fit your energy or face shape, no big deal! Sunglass trends only vary slightly year to year so if you find a style you love, like a classic Ray-Ban aviator frame, stick with it—they’ll never go out of style.
That being said, some shades really do like to have their big moment in the sun. This season, Loewe’s flirty flower sunglasses are all over Instagram. While there is no logo on the glasses, the shape is instantly recognizable and an easy way to tell who spent major cash on their shades.
Miu Miu’s cat eye frames are also trending and put a modern spin on a well-loved vintage shape. If you’re looking for something a little more colorful or daring, I’d recommend checking out Versace’s colored lens selection for inspiration.
I put these trends to the test myself on my recent trip around Europe. I rocked Versace in Spain, Madewell in Germany, and Miu Miu in France. My suitcase was stuffed to the seam, but I always managed to fit an extra pair (or four) of sunglasses. Keep reading for my favorite picks this season.

A retro cat-eye-style pair of sunglasses will automatically elevate the aesthetic of your summer look whether it’s a simple black dress or an under-wire bikini. Cat-eye glasses work with any lens type so you can have your pick between tortoiseshell, bright red or classic black frames.

I wore this pair of tortoiseshell Miu Miu cat-eye sunglasses throughout Spain and France and felt just as cool as all of the fashionable locals looked. I love that the cat eye takes a subtler shape.

This pair of Target sunglasses is a great pick if you’re looking for serious style on a budget. This pair is only $12 and also comes in a fun shade of bright yellow.

Ever since Celine released the Triomphe Oval Sunglasses last year, the rounded shape has been one of the most popular silhouettes among the fashionably inclined. Oval sunglasses truly look great on every face shape and will effectively shield your eyes from the sun. They’re cute, comfy, and chic—what’s not to love?

My biggest personal takeaway of summer 2023 so far is that Madewell makes the best sunglasses. I cannot stop wearing this pair of oval sunglasses—every time I grab another pair, I end up switching them out for these.

This pair of Loewe flower sunglasses is the pair to be wearing this summer. I saw Sofia Richie wear them and was immediately influenced. They come in multiple colors but I’m partial to the black.

Wireframe sunglasses bridge the gap between sporty and chic which makes them the perfect frame for when you’re on the go. From a lake day to a wine tasting, wireframe sunglasses will give you an effortlessly cool look. The best part? They’re super lightweight so you won’t even remember they’re on your face.

This pair of Ray-Ban shades have a reflective lens that gives them a little edge. The silhouette is also slightly inverted for a high-fashion feel.

These square wireframe sunglasses from Madewell have a classic vintage feel to them. Plus, they’re majorly on sale right now.

It’s no secret that bright colors appear more frequently in the summer. Between the blooming flowers, blue water, and influx of in-season fruit, summer is all about embracing vibrant hues. If you want to take it up a notch, look at life through a colored lens! Yellow, orange and even green sunglass lenses are one of my favorite summer trends. The best part is that you can wear them indoors without looking too pretentious.

I wore this pair of yellow Versace sunglasses on my trip to Spain and honestly felt so cool. I love the subtle logo detailing on the side.

This pair of yellow shades have tinted lenses so they’ll actually help block the sun a little. I especially love the wide frame on these.
