How Street Style Stars Wear Baggy Jeans

I’ve always been a proponent of baggy jeans. Through my fashionable tomboy days in high school, I basically lived in oversized denim and blouses. But somewhere between the craze of skinny jeans and the obsession with body-con, they fell off my radar and I was converted. Until I recently rediscovered the perfect pair—the wide, super-sized legs are neither flared nor straight, with a high waist that is curve-hugging, flattering, and tight, with hidden buttons.

There’s something louche about an oversized pair of jeans. They do have to fit—and finding the right proportion through styling can take time—but the result is often something I find to be worlds cooler than a pair of typical skinnies. They can make a pair of pumps look very chic and new, whereas when styled with skintight jeans, the classic shoe can come off as cheap and stale. The sort of effortless attitude that they convey is just perfect.

There’s also something about the comfort level that is undeniable. Wearing a pair of baggy jeans with a soft, tissue-thin tee; a comfy, oversized coat or even this season’s bomber jacket; and a great pair of dark shades is quickly becoming an instant classic as skinny jeans start to fade out of the mainstream and oversized denim takes the world by storm.
