Old Navy has been a leading budget-friendly option for seasonal basics since the early ’90s—you couldn’t walk 200 feet without running into someone with a loud fleece Old Navy logo sweatshirt. Styles and trends come and go, but Old Navy has proven itself to be an ever-lasting fashion pillar, even out-earning its older sibling brand, GAP, in recent years. And that’s because Old Navy just gets it: The brand does wardrobe essentials without sacrificing quality, cut, or the shopper’s savings account.
Its most recent drop marries trendy designs at a way more inclusive price tag, and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. The Occassion, Old Navy’s newest line of more “upscale” dresses, comes right in time for warm weather weddings, prom, and slightly-more-fancy events. And the pieces are stunning.

Liza Amlani from Retail Strategy Group tells Retail Dive, “I think this will be a win for Old Navy, especially if they capture customer feedback and adjust the assortment as they learn more about what the customer wants.” And for the record, I think it’ll be a win, too. As the senior commerce director at StyleCaster, I’ve noticed shopping at sites like Old Navy, Abercrombie, and Zara has significantly increased, with customers going to fast fashion sites for their formalwear, too.
The Occasion by Old Navy also offers something higher-end and designer brands don’t: Way more inclusive sizing. These pieces, aside from being way more affordable, are available in sizes up to 4X, which is awesome to see.
