Kendall Jenner just proved that the dad sneaker trend is still going strong. The celebrity was spotted a few days ago rocking a classic, no-frills chunky shoe, tempting us to swap out our current styles for something fresh (or Y2K, depending on how you look at it). I’m not exactly suggesting you ditch your Sambas, but the ASICS Gel-1130—the exact pair Jenner was wearing—are definitely set to become the next “it shoe” of 2025.
The ASICS Gel-1130 first launched in 2008 and was first and foremost designed as a running shoe. Drawing inspiration from the 9th iteration of the GEL-1000 series—one of ASICS’ most popular lines focused on stability and support for runners with weak arches—the Gel-1130 has all the key features of its predecessors, but a more modern, stylish silhouette. In fact, these sneakers perform just as well off the track, thanks to the GEL cushioning technology in the heel, making them perfect for everyday wear.
Jenner paired the ASICS Gel-1130 with a relaxed, casual outfit, choosing a red runners jacket, black leggings, and a grey hoodie for an outing in Los Angeles. But the standout feature of her ensemble was the addition of high ankle socks with the sneakers, giving her a smidge of an ’80s-inspired look.
