Hoka Sneakers Are Secretly on Super Sale at REI for Memorial Day

I own at least six pairs of Hokas. As someone who does a lot of outside walking and running, Hokas are key for a comfortable, supporting walk—especially if you have any kind of foot issues, like fallen arches or flat feet. Back when I first got serious about running, I wore the wrong shoes outside, and developed a sprained ankle. I had to take a break, and wear a compression sleeve for months—it set me back months. Now, I make sure to always wear an appropriate shoe for whatever I’m doing, whether that’s walking the dogs, hiking, or lifting weights. And my Hokas are in heavy rotation.

If you’re looking for a supreme pair of support sneakers, Hokas can’t be beat. But they’re expensive, which is why I’m always on the lookout for a discount. Lucky for all of us chunky shoe lovers, Hoka is on massive sale at REI’s biggest sale of the year, the Anniversary Sale (live until May 26).

The Clifton 9s are one of my all-time favorite running sneakers, especially for outdoor runs. With other shoes, I’ve experienced sprained ankles from uneven, hard footing, but the Clifton 9 provides supreme bounce and cushioning, which products not only my foot, but my entire leg. The 3-mm stack height is just high enough without risking imbalance, and the breathable mesh upper ensures your feet will stay cool even in the sweaty summertime.

If you’re a big hiker, then you probably already know the shoes you’re wearing could make or break your hike. This pair is ultra light, cushion-y to protect feet, and designed for all-terrain usage. Meant to be worn for hours and hours, these keep arches and heels feeling comfortable.

The Arahi is another great sneaker for road runs, as its cushioning really braces your feet and legs for impact. Unlike the Clifton 9, the Arahi’s design highlights a MetaRocker, so I wouldn’t recommend this shoe to take with you to gym (it’ll create too much of an imbalance on the weight room floor).

This “everything” shoe is designed to be worn for running, lifting, and walking—basically, whatever activity you do, it should be able to handle. Unlike other Hoka shoes, this one isn’t too cushion-y, so it should handle balance better than other styles. Features like reflectivity (for nighttime runs), high-abrasion rubber outsoles (for any kind of terrain), and breathable uppers (less sweat), means this truly is truly a great “crossover” sneaker.
