This summer is all about the netted flat—either in ballerina form or Mary Jane. The look is trending big time, and every fashionista is itching to get their hands on a pair if they don’t already have one in their rotation. Leading the pack is the Alaïa style, but the $1,000 price tag is pretty intimidating. Luckily, I’ve been searching the internet high and low for a comparable shoe for a fraction of the cost. To no surprise, I did not come up empty.

Target currently offers a style from the Journee Collection for only $60. The resemblance is uncanny—from the net construction, glossy buckle, and clay-colored insole. The only difference I really see is that the Journee pair features sheer fabric under the net, where the Alaïa is only net. And honestly, I feel that makes the Journee pair a bit more favorable since your feet will be protected from dust, dirt, and other outdoor elements—especially if you live in New York City. The Target option also comes in a few different colors, including a bright red, baby blue, pale pink, and white.

The shoe features a slight heel, which is great for walking so your feet aren’t directly on the ground.

Journee isn’t the only brand offering the style for less. If you have a TikTok obsession like me, you’ve probably seen clips of Steve Madden’s interview on “The Cutting Room Floor” podcast, where he openly admitted to copying Alaïa with his Dreaming Black Multi Flat. Like the Journee pair, there’s sheer fabric that will protect your feet, but it costs $90, so yes, you’d still be saving money, but you’d save even more with the Journee pair.

The Alaïa also comes in the colors Nude Clair and Candy.

We saw mesh and netted shoes reemerge onto the fashion scene in 2023, with the style maintaining momentum into 2025. Stars like Kourtney Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence, and Elsa Hosk are big fans of the look.
