Jeans trends ebb and flow a lot. Although it might seem like the style you’ve finally accepted into your wardrobe (cough, low-rise jeans, cough) is already on its way out, denim trends actually stick around much longer than you’d think. Case in point: many of the 2026 jeans trends are actually quite similar to those of 2025, with a few micro trends also on the rise.
2026 is all about variety when it comes to denim. “The jean trends have sort of an ‘anything goes’ umbrella, including baggy styles, straight leg, high-waisted flares, low-rise, and bootcuts,” says celebrity stylist Samantha Brown.
Brown also says to expect a lot more gray—including light washes and deep charcoals—in 2026. This aligns with the “vintage washes” that stylist and fashion creator Nena Evans says will also be popular in the new year. “Vintage-inspired washes are everywhere, especially soft light blues, worn-in grays, and true indigo,” she explains. Similarly, stylist Nicole Pearl says, indigo and deep dark washes are predominant this season, including some with wax or treated denim finishes. “Waxed and treated denims add a slightly elevated, polished finish that reads more intentional and less casual.”
As far as micro-trends are concerned, Brown says not to be surprised to see some of the craftier styles become more dominant in the new year, too. “Embellished jeans have always had a place on the sidelines, but we’re seeing them studded, embroidered, with rhinestones, appliques, and painted,” she notes.
If you’re looking ahead to 2026 style and want to refresh your wardrobe with some new denim styles that will continue to trend in the new year, we’ve got you covered with top picks from Levi’s, Lee, Target, Nordstrom, and more. Here are the best jeans to wear in 2026.
In 2026, straight jeans remain a go-to choice, particularly well-suited for everyday wear. You can wear this trendy yet timeless style more casually with sneakers and a T-shirt, or dress it up with a pair of ankle booties (yes, those are also on-trend) and a blouse or button-down top for a more business-casual look.
According to Brown, a lot of the 2025 jean trends will continue in 2026 with an “anything goes” approach to denim styles. In the new year, try baggy jeans in an assortment of styles, including low-rise and wide-leg silhouettes.
According to Evans, we’ll see a return to vintage washes in 2026. This includes the gray jeans trend as well as light, faded blue tones and some true indigo hues as well.
High-rise flare jeans are also in style in 2026. This silhouette is the perfect choice for those who want to dress up their denim or add some extra height to the frame (the high-rise flare silhouette elongates the legs!). They’re also a nice choice for pairing with heeled boots.
The Y2K low-rise jeans styles still reign in 2026, with lots more silhouettes to choose from. This jeans style is typically paired with a slouchier silhouette for a comfortable, laid-back look, but you can totally push the boundaries in 2026 with bootcuts and flares, in addition to baggy jeans.
The fashion industry is in its Western era, and with so many cowboy-inspired silhouettes, fabrics, and prints, it’s not surprising to see bootcut jeans as one of 2026’s top denim trends. These styles look great with a pair of boots, of course, but they’re also a nice choice for more petite frames who want some shape without a dramatic flare.
According to Brown, it’s not just about jeans styles in 2026; it’s also about the wash. While blue jeans aren’t going anywhere, gray washes—including ultra-light washes and deep charcoal tones—will rise in popularity in the new year.
Crafty, handmade fashion is on the rise, and the embellished jeans trend is certainly a nod to it. Whether you DIY some denim with fabric paint and stencils or buy a pair of embroidered jeans, there are so many ways to wear this style.
