With the new year comes new jewelry trends to look forward to. While some of 2025’s favorite styles won’t be going anywhere (yes, we are talking about the charm craze), 2026 engagement ring trends are shifting focus with more design-forward pieces that favor metal, color, and shape.

How to Shop for Trendy Engagement Rings

When shopping for trendy engagement rings, one concern is, of course, if the ring will remain in style for years to come. One of the best ways to ensure your trendy ring won’t go out of style is to make sure that it fits your personal style—after all, personal style is timeless. However, there are a few other details worth considering.

“The key to longevity is pairing a classic center stone shape with a more trend-driven setting,” says Annie Chen, the senior vice president of merchandising at Brilliant Earth. “Styles like solitaires, three-stones, chunky metal, and yellow gold are cyclical by nature, which makes them feel both current and timeless.”

Olivia Landau, the founder and CEO of The Clear Cut, says investing in the diamond is one of the most important things you can do when picking out an engagement ring, since most diamond shapes and sizes will stand the test of time. “You can always reset your diamond in a different style ring down the road, so design the ring you love right now.”

If you love trendy jewelry designs but are seriously concerned about how they will hold up over the years, Kegan Fisher, the co-founder and CEO of Frank Darling, says the most enduring choice is a more timeless engagement ring, paired with bands that let you build a customizable, trend-forward stack that can evolve with you over time. “And if you still really want that delightfully unhinged moment east-west, half-bezel moment, that’s what pinky rings are for!”

To find out exactly what engagement ring styles are popular in 2026, we tapped diamond and jewelry experts for their insights. Here’s what they say to propose to your partner with in the new year.

Chunky Gold-Forward Bands

The new year is all about gold—but not just in tone. “In 2026, engagement rings will continue to be bold and intentional,” says Fisher. “Think chunky, gold-forward bands [with] bezel and collet settings,” she adds. This is the time to let your band shine through, with a more cigar style and—of course—a diamond front and center.

Helzberg Marquise Solitaire Wide Band Engagement Ring
The Marquise Solitaire Wide Band Engagement Ring from Helzberg features a couple of popular 2026 engagement ring trends. First, it’s a fabulous example of the chunky, gold-forward style. Plus, it includes an elongated center stone in a marquise cut, another trend for the new year. The ring features a lab-grown 2-carat diamond in the center, set on a timeless, thick cigar band, offering a more gender-neutral design.

Frank Darling The Lunette
The Lunette ring from Frank Darling is another excellent example of this timeless style, with some more modern details, like a half bezel setting and an elongated cushion cut stone. The ring is also a great compromise for those who like the chunky, gold-forward look but want something more feminine with a tapered silhouette.

Grown Brilliance Prima Round Lab Grown Diamond Bold Bezel Solitaire Engagement Ring
A signet-style ring is perfect for this trendy style, and the round diamond in this Grown Brilliance Solitaire Engagement Ring lends a touch of classic elegance. For something even more on-trend in 2026, the chunky gold engagement ring can also feature a cushion-cut or emerald-cut center stone.

Old Mine-Cut Diamonds

For the vintage and antique lovers, an old mine-cut diamond is the perfect engagement ring stone. “Driven by celebrity influence (e.g., Taylor Swift’s elongated cushion) and a desire for character, the old mine-cut is surging with this historic cut’s warm fire and chunky facets without the antique premium,” says Kristy Cullinane of Plum Diamonds. Old mine-cut diamonds boast hand-cut facets and are usually a square or cushion shape with rounded corners.

Plum Diamonds Old Mine Cut Bezel Ring
The Plum Diamonds Old Mine Cut Bezel Ring is a great example of this trend—and we love how the antique-style diamond blends with a simple, sleek modern bezel setting. To customize it, choose between a thick gold band and a split-shank design for added detail.

Brilliant Earth 1.01 Ct., G Color, Old Mine Cut Diamond
Brilliant Earth has a gorgeous collection of loose diamonds that you can easily add to a selection of the brand’s engagement ring settings online. Start with this 1.01 Ct., G Color, Old Mine Cut Diamond, then click “add to ring” and choose a setting that feels personalized to your significant other.

Lab-Grown Colored Diamonds

Colorful stones are so back, baby. “Colored diamonds, especially green, pink, blue, and yellow, are moving from niche luxury to an accessible staple,” says Cullinane. The stones look gorgeous on their own, but Cullinane says we’ll also see lots of styles with these stones “set in bezels and surrounded by a complementary gold color [yellow, white, or rose].” Colorful diamonds are pricey, so you can also get away with a colorful gemstone that looks like a diamond, such as a pink sapphire or a blue topaz.

Yellow diamonds are notoriously pricey, but you can buy them for a little less when you shop lab-grown diamond designs, such as the Helzberg Lab Grown Diamond Yellow Elongated Cushion-Cut Center Engagement Ring. This splurgy ring features a large, elongated cushion-cut diamond in the center with two accent diamonds in a classic, clear diamond tone.

Plum Diamonds Colored Bezel Ring
Sometimes, a pop of color is the only detail you need. The Plum Diamonds Colored Bezel Ring lets the green diamond speak for itself, with a simple split-shank band and a sleek bezel setting. The pear-cut center stone is also a nice nod to the elongated stone style that will be everywhere in 2026.

Audrey Rose Pink Sapphire Octagon Rock Band
Colorful diamonds can get pricey, so a sapphire is a great alternative. The Audrey Rose Pink Sapphire Octagon Rock Band blends a design-forward style with a chunkier gold band and a simple round pink sapphire stone, offset for an asymmetrical aesthetic. We love that this ring incorporates the trendy stone color while also making it feel like part of a story, rather than the main character.

Bony Levy 14K Gold Blue Topaz Heart Ring
On Sale 32% off
If you’re not quite sure what your partner will love, consider proposing with a smaller, more trendy ring like the Bony Levy 14K Gold Blue Topaz Heart Ring. This under $300 ring is constructed from solid 14K yellow gold with a heart-shaped blue topaz center stone. It’s a great placeholder and a sentimental style that they can incorporate as their “something blue” on the big day or even wear alongside their wedding band when they want to simplify their stack.

Elongated Shapes

Round diamonds will always be in style. However, things are getting some length in the new year, with elongated shapes taking center stage in our settings. “Ovals, marquises, elongated cushions, pears, radiants, and emeralds continue their strong popularity since they’re universally flattering, look larger for their carat weight, and offer exceptional value,” says Cullinane. “Whether set in a classic north-south or modest east-west orientation, these rings will look timeless.”

James Allen Oval Cut Petite Pavé Engagement Ring
The James Allen Oval Cut Petite Pavé Engagement Ring is a timeless oval engagement ring with slightly trend-forward details. These include a thicker prong setting and smaller stones that accent the diamond.

Smaller Stones

With lab-grown diamonds making larger stones more affordable, larger centerpieces remain in style. However, Cullinane says people are increasingly favoring smaller stones when choosing an engagement ring. “Focusing on holistic design, the singular focus on maximum carat weight is shifting to a design-forward approach,” she explains. “Prioritizing artistry and balance, smaller center stones allow surrounding details (accent diamonds, unique metalwork, etc.) to shine, making the ring a complex piece of jewelry rather than just a large stone on a band.” She goes on to say that, instead of being framed by its setting, the center stone is “actually part of the style.”

Kay Jewelers Now + Forever Emerald-Cut Halo Engagement Ring
On Sale 47% off
The emerald-cut diamond is certainly the star of this Kay Jewelers engagement ring, but instead of sticking out, it feels a little more incorporated with the halo setting and diamond-encrusted band. This ring is also a great choice for those with a simpler, classic style who might want their engagement ring to stand out amongst the other rings in their stack.

The Clear Cut The Olivia Ring
Instead of going with one center stone and a few accent diamonds, opt for this ring from The Clear Cut. The Olivia Ring feels like it’s made up entirely of accent stones, with a bigger focus on design vs. stone size. We love that this engagement ring boasts a ton of versatility, allowing you to play around with over rings in your wedding band stack.
