As a serial comfort seeker, I’ve always been enticed by overalls—they’re easy to throw on, effortless to style, and give you the fashion-forward look of jeans while still being super cozy. Like any fashion girlie on a budget, I love finding cute and affordable clothing pieces, which is why I’m here to give you my honest Revolt overalls review. I’ve owned my Revolt Straight Leg Twill Overalls for literally six years and continue to pick them up year-round.

I was first recommended Revolt’s collection of affordable overalls by a friend who wore an adorable denim pair almost weekly, and from that point on I was hooked. My black twill overalls have comforted me through countless seasons of my life, from making their appearance in high school and college classrooms to horseback riding in the California mountains, painting murals in Costa Rica, and even directing celebrity photoshoots at StyleCaster. Talk about versatility! Overalls truly never go out of style, and at Revolt’s reasonable price point, I’d be doing you a disservice by not recommending them. My Revolt overalls have been well worth every penny I spent on them, so if you’re interested to discover why I continue to rave about them after over six years, keep reading.

Revolt Overalls: Fit & Quality

The primary reason that I’m so obsessed with these overalls is for their surprisingly sturdy quality. Made from 100 percent cotton, Revolt twill overalls are soft and supple yet still heavy-duty, meaning they’re incredibly comfortable without compromising the structured look. Considering that I’ve worn my overalls religiously for six years and they don’t have a single hole or flaw from use, it’s safe to say that this item is long-wear. The only issue that I have with these overalls is that the black cotton fabric attracts lint and hair. I own three dogs, so avoiding pet hair is nearly impossible for me. A lint roller will definitely come in handy when wearing these black twill overalls.

I am fairly petite at a height of 5’3”, so I often find it quite difficult to find pants that fit me correctly straight out of the store. My Revolt overalls hit right above the floor without shoes, so I tend to opt for cuffing them at the bottom. If cuffing my overalls doesn’t fit the vibe of my outfit, I’ll grab a platform or heeled shoe to make sure that the fabric doesn’t drag on the ground.

I particularly adore the fit of these overalls because they are comfortably snug at the waist but have a wider leg, which doesn’t hug or squeeze my body. Comfort is a top priority to me, so I love that coziness doesn’t come at the cost of completely losing my shape when wearing these overalls. The best part? Revolt’s overalls are size inclusive, offering their products up to a size 24 at Walmart.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • High-quality fabric
  • Attention to detail
  • Size inclusive
  • Long-wear

Cons

  • Attracts lint & hair

Revolt Overalls: Features

As someone who carries around way too many items at once, (don’t judge me, I’m just a girl), I grimace at the sight of absurdly shallow or, even worse, fake pockets that are customary for women’s jeans. Luckily, as a clothing item that is heavily focused on utility, you can count on overalls to have plenty of fully functional pockets. The Revolt Straight Leg Twill Overalls have four large pockets in the front and back, plus four additional smaller pockets on the bib. I feel like Mary Poppins with her magical bottomless bag when I wear these overalls, like I can hide the whole world in those pockets.

With adjustable straps, silver buttons and hardware, inconspicuous belt loops, and a Revolt logo sewn in the center of the bib and on the back left pocket, it’s obvious that this item was made with thoughtful attention to every detail, which is impressive considering the price point. Revolt’s logo is candy apple red, adding a playful pop of color to an otherwise basic clothing item. Since candy apple red has been proclaimed the color of the season, lean into the use of red accents when styling these overalls to look totally on-trend.

Revolt Overalls: Price & Cost

As I’ve previously mentioned, a factor that enticed me to order these overalls in the first place is the fabulous price. At $39.99, you’re getting a high-quality feel and construction, as well as a product that lasts for years to come. It’s a great deal! As much as I adore my black overalls, Revolt offers a wide range of different overalls and shortalls in navy, green, red, and different denim washes. I personally have my eye on the Lana Roux 90s Retro Revolt Dungaree Cargo Utility Jean Overalls, which are a slightly higher price at $59.99.

How to Style Overalls

The options for styling overalls are endless and highly dependent on your personal style and intended outfit aesthetic. To get a better grasp on how to style overalls in a cool way and not look like a farm girl, I sought the advice of a professional.

According to StyleCaster’s e-commerce writer and freelance stylist Samantha Sutton, “There are plenty of ways to wear overalls that will speak to your personal style. For a loose, more casual vibe, you can slip a long-sleeved T-shirt, turtleneck, even a hoodie underneath, as long as it’s not too bulky. If you want to dress up your overalls, try to play around with proportion with a voluminous sleeve, or provide some contrast with sequins.”

She adds, “One of my go-to looks is layering a simple white button-down underneath, which creates a classic, sleek ensemble that you can then spice up with accessories. As for footwear, it’s really up to personal preference—anything from a pair of chunky sneakers to heeled booties will work!”

With Sam’s styling advice in mind, I grabbed my overalls and assembled a super casual outfit suitable for the chill of New York winter. I threw on a thrifted white cable knit sweater layered over my Uniqlo HEATTECH Long Sleeve Crewneck T-Shirt, which is truly my saving grace for keeping warm in the winter without adding bulk. I volunteered to deliver warm meals to elderly New York residents on this day, which required walking around the city for over two hours with heavy bags of food. To achieve the ultimate level of comfort and practicality, I opted for my Nike Dunk Low shoes in the Coconut Milk color, keeping the look monochromatic. My overalls kept me warm in the biting chill of a December morning, and I also felt so cute!

Whether you are going for an ultra casual street style look or something a little more elevated, overalls are your best friend. I personally adore the juxtaposition of casual denim overalls paired with colorful pumps or square-toe Mary Janes. Or, for a more casual vibe, take inspiration from Kourtney Kardashian’s pairing of black twill overalls with a Blink-182 graphic tee and platform loafers. However you choose to style your overalls, have fun, and don’t be afraid to get creative. Unique accessories and unexpected pops of color will turn this traditionally utilitarian clothing item into a fashion statement.
