Meet the Upgraded Wrap Dress Your Wardrobe Needs

It’s been more than 40 years since Diane von Furstenberg first created the wrap dress in 1974; and the fact we’re still talking about it today is testament to the design’s immortality. Over the decades, Furstenberg’s wrap became—and I don’t use the word lightly–iconic. However, at 25-years-old, I’ve always considered the DVF wrap to be something that, well, my mom would wear, and not a look that fits with my own sense of style. It’s damn flattering, that’s inarguable, and the DVF wrap is classic, sure, but “classic” wouldn’t feel particularly at home among the wide-leg culottes, sparkly bomber jackets, flatforms, and crop tops in my 20-something wardrobe.

Still, the style has experienced enduring success because it’s just so damn flattering; it’s impossible not to look and feel elegant when your curves are swathed in the intertwined layers of fabric. So it’s understandable then, that along with fringing and flares getting a 2016 reboot thanks to this season’s huge ’70s revival, the wrap dress has been reinterpreted for the modern girl’s wardrobe too.

This season, the wrap dress is long and languid, rather than the fitted, body-hugging styles that we’ve seen enduring for years. Cut in slinky silk or chiffon fabrics, this season’s take on the wrap is elegant but easy, and evokes major bohemian vibes.
