In general, a beach is the ideal place to ditch your shoes, feel the sand between your toes, and forget you ever voluntarily wore high heels, but you don’t always want to go barefoot at a relatively fancy affair—such as, for instance, a wedding.
Whether you’re on bridesmaid duty, are just a guest, or it’s your wedding you’re shopping for, odds are you’re going to have to bring along at least some form of footwear for the ceremony. And since destination weddings tend to carry with them their fair share of stressors—airfare, travel time, hotel costs—we hope we can at least help you out on the shoe front.
Things to avoid: suede, satin, anything you’ll be devastated to see get splashed with a bit of salt water. (And, hey, if you are nervous, you can aways take them off before you step on the sand.) A tiny wedge or block heel should be fine if that’s your jam, but in general, there’s no reason not to embrace the opportunity to be comfortable for an hours-long event. For guests or offbeat brides, we like colorful sandals with fringe or fun prints (Dolce and Gabbana’s embellished lemon slides are a dream), and for more traditional nuptials, you can’t go wrong with a strappy, shimmery pair.
