If you’re a homebody like me, you’ll agree that the key to having the perfect date night is simple: order takeout, put on the coziest pair of PJs you own, and watch the latest HBO show with your lover. Take it from me, you definitely don’t have to go out in public to have a great date. There are plenty of free at-home date ideas that’ll make you feel like you’re living in a Nancy Meyers rom-com, and you’d be doing yourself (and your S.O.) a disservice by not hanging out at home one of these nights.

Of course, going out on the town with your partner can be a great way to experience new things with each other and break up your routine, especially if you live together. However, an at-home date can feel especially fairytale-like when done right. “A truly romantic date is about intentionality, emotional connection, and creating a moment that feels special and meaningful,” says Sabrina Bendory, relationship expert for Dating.com. “What is romantic is the effort and thoughtfulness behind it. It’s about showing that you see and appreciate the other person in a way that makes them feel truly valued.

When planning a date at home, Bendory suggests tailoring the experience to what makes your connection unique. “Whether that means planning an activity based on an inside joke, recreating a special memory, or doing something that aligns with their interests, personalization makes the moment feel intimate,” she says, adding that couples should also aim to “break their routines and make everyday moments feel special.” Ask each other questions you wouldn’t normally discuss in daily life, share your dreams, or reminisce about your favorite memories together. It’s all in the little details.

To give you some inspo, I’ve compiled ten of the best at-home date ideas for you and your partner to enjoy. (Warning: these might just turn you into a homebody.)

Movie Marathon Night

The easiest date idea of all time: a cozy, romantic movie night. Gather your softest blankets, go on your streaming service of choice, and watch your favorite films. To spice things up a little, take turns deciding which movies to watch and make sure to have a long debriefing session. Oh, and don’t forget to crack open a bottle of wine.

Wine Tasting

If you’re an unofficial sommelier like me, an at-home wine tasting is a dream come true. Grab a few varietals and a pen: you’re going to want to write down your rankings for each. If you want, you can also make things educational–research each bottle’s country of origin, how the wine was made, and what each vineyard looks like. Because what’s sexier than sipping wine and learning a thing or two in the process?

Karaoke Session

Odds are, one of you is obsessed with Karaoke. In a relationship, there’s always at least one person who loves to sing, so why not turn that into a date? YouTube has instrumental music to just about any song you can think of, and you can either take turns going solo or practice your duet together. (Mics are optional, but strongly encouraged.)

Family Night

I can’t stress this enough, but inviting family over is the most wholesome and cute way to spend time with your partner. Cook a big meal or set up a tea time–you’ll be glad you spent time with the people you love most.

Sweet Treat Bake Off

Everyone knows that the fastest way to a girl’s heart is a sweet treat. So, logically, cooking or baking something together is a surefire way to deepen your bond. The best part is, there are so many possibilities to explore: cookies, cakes, pies, breads…the world is your oyster.

Hot Girl Walk (With Your Boo)

There are tons of health benefits to walking, and it also makes for a pretty romantic thing to do with your S.O., if we’re being honest. Whether you live in a lush green area or a bustling city, taking a long neighborhood stroll with your partner is always a memorable experience.

Spa Session

There’s nothing better than relaxing at home with your S.O. Light a few candles, turn on the soft jazz, and dedicate an entire evening to winding down together. While the options are endless, some activities you can do together include sharing a relaxing bath, giving each other massages, and doing face masks. It’ll be a romantic night to remember, all in the comfort of your own home!

Game Night

Chances are, you have a deck of cards, a game console, or a board game somewhere in your home. Once you get a good lineup of snacks and beverages by your side, you can show off your game strategy and see who’s the better player.

Stargazing in the Yard

For those with backyards and balconies, the most romantic thing you can do with your partner is look at the stars. Lay out a few blankets, cozy up with your lover, and take in the view–maybe you’ll see a shooting star. Bonus points if you set up a tent and bring a pair of binoculars.

‘Chopped’ Cooking Challenge

The premise of ‘Chopped’ is simple–take three completely random ingredients and create something delicious. Using your joint culinary genius, you and your S.O. can chef up a few creative dishes using random items from your pantry.
