The Theme Was No Clothes at the 2025 Brit Awards

No red carpet is complete without a naked dress. At this point, the look is a requirement, dominating awards season year after year. The 2025 Brit Awards were no exception to this *unspoken* rule with stars like Charli xcx and Maura Higgins baring all for photographers.

Charli was a must-see in a Dilara Findikoglu design, fresh off the label’s fall/winter 2025 runway. Charli went topless under the frock, which featured completely sheer black fabric that fell into a corset-like bodice and a form-fitting skirt. The dress was finished with a veil-like hood, and Charli topped the piece off with a thong and pointed-toe pumps.

Higgins, for her part, also wore a black thong underneath a sheer black dress. Hers hit the floor, cascading into a mermaid-like train. The Galia Lahav number was adorned with pastel florals that partially shielded her breasts. She allowed the dress to be the focal point, pulling her hair up into a sleek bun.

Naked dresses have had a grip on fashion for decades. I’m talking Cher at the 1974 Met Gala, Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammys, and Rihanna at the 2014 CFDA Awards. Through the years, designers have unveiled different iterations of the look, incorporating different lengths, textures, and silhouettes. Barely-there dresses seem to be one of the only looks to remain on the trend cycle. Take the 2025 runways, for example. Fashion houses like Naeem Khan, Grace Ling, and Christian Cowan sent models down the catwalk in mesh, slips, and halters that left little to the imagination.
