The 2025 awards season has felt like a marathon, and the biggest event in film is finally here. The 97th Academy Awards are almost underway in Los Angeles, and the stars are rocking the red carpet.
Considering this is the moment we (and the biggest names in Hollywood) have been waiting for, it’s no surprise that the A-listers brought it. The stars exuded true glamour in billowing gowns that gave us texture, color, and shape. Take Cynthia Erivo, for example. The actress, who may become an EGOT if she receives a statue tonight for her performance as Elphaba, took our breath away in custom Louis Vuitton. The larger-than-life look was a Wicked green that featured a witchy neckline, a corseted bodice, and a Victorian-esque skirt. “I wanted a big dress if I made it here, and here we are,” Erivo told E!‘s Zuri Hall. Ariana Grande, who is up for her role as Glinda in the live-action musical, also turned heads. The singer dazzled in a blush Schiaparelli gown that featured a whimsical silhouette. The sweetheart neckline fell into a protruding waist that then transformed into a sparkly tulle skirt. She was a walking work of art.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, there seemed to be a liquid theme. Stars like Whoopi Goldberg and Felicity Jones shined in metallic gowns that gave off a wet illusion. Goldberg’s came fresh off the Christian Siriano fall/winter 2025 runway, and the designer himself said he gave the look to the star after she saw it while sitting front row at the show. Jones, meanwhile, opted to show a bit of skin in hers, which came in the form of a figure-flattering halter. It came equipped with a belted bow and slits just above the waist.
