Sabrina Carpenter has been living it up on the road for a good chunk of the last two years. She was on tour for her last album Emails I Can’t Send where her “Nonsense” outros were going viral on TikTok every night, and then she went for the major leagues in the spring of 2024 with the release of her instant hit, “espresso,” the release of which was timed perfectly for her big set at Coachella. Since then, she’s been traveling to major cities to tour her new album Short ‘n Sweet, as well as accompanying the mother of pop stars, Taylor Swift, as an opener on The Eras Tour for some stops in South America and Asia. Needless to say, she’s been busy, but not too busy to forget a killer wardrobe. Carpenter’s style as a performer is very costumey and in character for the persona she’s playing—a coy and coquettish, sexy little flirt. She leans so well into both innocence and crudeness with her vibe, the comedy she plays inside of giving her plenty of room to perform.

If you haven’t seen the endless clips of Sabrina Carpenter’s opening for her Short ‘n Sweet tour, it goes like this. Miss Carpenter is the star of a ’50s style television show, where she’s lounging in the bathtub, only then it becomes clear that she’s running late to her own show. The television show ends, and she’s in full caricature mode, running across the house-shaped set on the stage in a towel, which she reveals is embellished with sequins on the inside when she flashes the audience in a glittering bodysuit. And that’s when she goes right into her first number, “Taste.”

It’s that level of humor that makes Sabrina Carpenter’s sexy schtick somehow feel kind of family friendly. And while she’s no stranger to courting controversy—see the Brooklyn Church music video scandal, which got Eric Adams in trouble or the public’s response to her Juno poses—but that doesn’t stop her jokes from feeling like a wink.

Over the course of her set, she changes into a few different looks. One includes a little teddy and a sheer baby doll cape, a lace full length bodysuit, and a sequin halter top and mini skirt. Across her multiple tour dates, she switches the colors and patterns up a bit, wearing tartan in Scotland, for example, and the Union Jack flag in the UK.
