Like most people, I break out from time to time. Unlike most people, I suffer from a personal, borderline pathological myth that even a single blemish is enough to be so detrimental to my overall appearance that my friends, colleagues, and the surly woman scanning my groceries at Key Food are unable to register that I have any other facial features. Forget having a zit; I am the zit.
To say that I can be a bit hard on my skin would be an understatement. Against my better judgement, I pick and pop and squeeze until what I’m left with is less like a pimple and more like something that requires Neosporin and a bandaid. I do myself no favors—in fact, all I’m doing is waging war against my own face, which never ends well.
Naturally, I then become deeply invested in hiding said brutalized blemish from view. I want to “take care of it,” so to speak, Tony Soprano style. This is the moment of truth. I have totally destroyed my face. Will I now be able to conceal it, or will I be broadcasting the fact that I was so bothered by a relatively minor blemish that I dug a small hole into my skin? (The latter. It’s always the latter.)
I’ve tried many, many concealers in my day, particularly those intended to both treat and conceal zits. This is important: some formulas contain pore-clogging ingredients, like certain oils and even plastics (!), that can make breakout situations exponentially worse. There are a surprising dearth of suitable concealers on the market, so whenever one comes out, I give it a shot.
That’s what led me to Jouer Anti-Blemish Treatment Concealer, a new formula that promises complete coverage and maximum-strength salicylic acid to clear those suckers up while keeping them under wraps. I am happy to report that—and happy for my own sake, let’s be real—it does, indeed, fulfill those claims. The slightly waxy, easily blended texture gives it a slight tackiness that lends itself well to staying power, and I did see a decrease in both size and redness at the end of the day.
So fellow pickers, poppers, skin care criminals: take note. If you’re in need of a blemish-fighting concealer that stays on, with an impressively seamless finish that makes you look less like an aggressive bathroom surgeon and more like a well-balanced person able to keep their hands off their face, this one will do the trick.
