Is the Viral Vibration Plate Trend Actually Worth Trying? (The Answer Is Yes)

I tried the Lifepro Vibration Plate to see if it actually lives up to all that TikTok hype.

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok in the last few months, you’ve probably seen at least one (or, in the case of my algorithm, dozens of) videos of someone standing on a vibration plate, claiming it is the only at-home exercise equipment you need to reach your fitness goals in 2025. I’ll admit: I was a little cynical about vibration plates when I first scrolled past one—but they did look fun, and that was enough to pique my interest and order the LifePro Waver Vibration Plate (which is conveniently on sale for $50 off at Walmart right now).

What Are Vibration Plates?

Vibration plates are essentially like little platforms (sort of like those workout steps that were trendy in the 80s) that, well, vibrate. You can stand, sit, or position parts of your body on the surface to experience the sensation and reap the alleged benefits. And, as it turns out, the TikTokers aren’t full of it—there really are tons of science-backed benefits.

“Mechanical vibration has been clinically and scientifically proven to stimulate, excite, enhance, and promote muscles to respond to a natural action with a reaction by the muscle fibers shortening and lengthening in response to motion,” says Amber Kivett, LAT, ATC, CSCS, FMS, FMT, the head of health & wellness at Lifepro

The Benefits of Vibration Plates

Also known as “Whole Body Vibration (WBV) Therapy,” vibration plates offer many health perks. According to Kivett, they accelerate fat loss, support lymphatic drainage (which can, in turn, support immunity and detoxification), restore and reshape the fascial connective tissue, improve bone density, and decrease inflammation (including inflammatory hormones like cortisol).

Vibration plates can also support balance, coordination, and proprioception—aka, body awareness—all of which can reduce the risk of injury and make you feel more connected to your body. These plates can also trigger happy hormones and reduce feelings of anxiety while improving overall mental well-being.

Can a Vibration Plate Help You Lose Weight?

Weight loss is one of the key benefits of vibration plates that have made them go viral online, but do they really work? “Vibration plates can support weight loss, but they’re not a standalone solution and they’re most effective as part of a comprehensive approach that includes a healthy diet and regular exercise,” says Lori Diamos, PT, MS FAFS, a physical therapist and movement expert. She explains that a few ways vibration plates contribute to weight loss are through visceral fat reduction, firming and toning the body, and calorie burn.

Kivett has tested these benefits out IRL and says she lost over 50 pounds using a LifePro Vibration Plate for 10 to 30 minutes per day, three to four days a week, and not doing any other workouts or following any special diets so she could track its benefits. Instead, she focused on tuning into her hormones and optimizing them using the vibration plate’s ability to decrease inflammation and inflammatory hormones.

“Our body becomes inflamed and swollen when we do too much cardio exercise, so any cardiovascular exercise over 75% MHR for longer than 20 to 30 minutes can actually cause you to gain weight and store fat,” she notes. “The vibration plate does the opposite and allows you to get your heart rate up enough to tap into the fat energy storage system and utilize that fuel for exercise without causing more inflammation or spiking inflammatory hormones with exercise.”

With so many interesting and potential benefits of vibration plates, I had to try one out for myself. (I already own a walking pad, balance board, and a literal trampoline that I use in my apartment living room—what’s one more fitness gadget?) After scouring TikTok shop, Amazon, Target, and other retailers for the best vibration plates, I decided to go with the LifePro Waver Vibration Plate because it’s from a brand I am already familiar with (totally off-topic, but I have LifePro Allevaglove Red Light Therapy Glove and love it) and had lots of great reviews.

I loved this device as soon as I slipped it out of the box. It was super easy to set up and compact enough to fit under my TV stand, so it’s out of the way when not in use. The vibration plate features 99 different speed settings, too, allowing you to customize your experience more than most at-home gym equipment.

One of the main reasons why I wanted to test the vibration plate was for its lymphatic drainage and fascia benefits. I experience bloat easily and would love to stand on a platform and have it jiggle out of my system. And, I am pleased to report that it essentially did just that. After incorporating this vibration plate into my routine for 10 minutes per day over a two-week period, I can tell the difference in my stomach bloat. I’ve also noticed that some of my muscle soreness has decreased, too, so it’s potentially a great tool for workout recovery.
