I spent 14 years taking birth control pills to help balance my irregular periods. So, when I decided to go off the pill a couple of years ago, I was prepared for long cycles, late ovulation, and so on. What I wasn’t prepared for was the painful periods—which were either a result of the hormone fluctuations experienced when going off the contraceptives or something I blocked out about my pre-pill life.

To manage my painful periods, I typically end up popping an ibuprofen, drinking tons of soothing tea, and soaking in a scalding hot bath several times a day. I’ve also been known to walk around my apartment with the Heat Healer Body Belt strapped around my waist with the temperature turned all the way up. These all help, but they’re not very practical when I am not at home. So, when I saw that Cora makes Heat Patches that you can stick onto your underwear and wear discreetly under garments, I had to try them out.

Cora Heat Patch Review: The Best On-the-Go Heating Pad for Period Cramps
Cora Heat Patches
The Cora Heat Patches are similar to those disposable hand warmer packets that you shake to activate. Only, these patches are pad-shaped and have a sticky back that you can use to secure them to the front or back of your underwear for cramp relief. The patches are designed with ingredients such as raspberry leaf, dandelion root, and cramp bark to provide a soothing sensation and can last (aka, stay hot) for up to eight hours of use—no microwave necessary.

When testing them out myself, I was instantly impressed by the amount of heat they offered—it was comparable to my beloved heating pad—and how easy and comfortable they are to wear. I tested the patches over a pair of Thinx period underwear and under high-waisted jeans and the slight pressure from the denim material (that admittedly fits a little snug during that time of month—thank you, period bloat) helped warm up the area and provide some relief, even after the ibuprofen wore off.

These handy heat patches come in packs of 6 for $16 and are available at Target, Amazon , and Grove Collaborative

Size: 7.5 inches wide
Key Ingredients: Raspberry leaf, dandelion root, and cramp bark
Amount: 6 count
Wear: Up to 8 hours of heat
