Now that I’m 32 years old, I’ve noticed my body simply doesn’t de-puff like it used to. Gone are the days of being a svelte 20-something with a high metabolism! These days, if I even look at a can of cheap beer it feels like my body immediately bloats. It’s normal, but it’s uncomfortable.

No matter how much water I drink, I’m always chasing that elusive “snatched” feeling. Add to that the usual suspects that come along with healthy aging—cellulite, stretch marks, weird swelling after sitting for too long—and I’ve tried just about everything short of booking weekly spa appointments.

So when I was offered a chance to test the HigherDOSE Body Sculptor, a sleek, microcurrent-powered sculpting device, I jumped at the chance. I’ve been a long-time fan of the brand (I basically live in its sauna blanket in the winters) and was excited to try what is, effectively, a futuristic gua sha tool.

How It Works

When I first opened my HigherDOSE Microcurrent Body Sculptor Ritual Set (a $399 bundle that includes the device, Sculpting Activator Gel, and Transdermal Magnesium Spray), I was intrigued by its compact, mini‑boomerang design—small enough to slip into a travel bag, yet powerful enough to feel like a fancy spa tool. The system fuses three popular wellness modalities: gua sha–style massage, red‑light LED therapy, and microcurrent stimulation.

Here’s how it works: You start with clean skin and apply a thin layer of the brand’s Sculpting Activator Gel, which promotes conductivity and infuses the skin with copper peptides and botanicals. Using the device, you select your intensity level—starting at Level 1 and working up to Level 4—and glide the sculptor slowly over areas of your body towards your heart. In essence, the device aims to replace a lymphatic massage or gua sha, offering fascia release, fluid drainage, and smoother texture in one handheld gadget. The red light aids in circulation, too, boosting the massaging effects while you sculpt.

The magnesium spray helps keep your Activator Gel moist during session while easing post-workout soreness by penetrating its nutrients deep into the skin. The brand suggests using the device on areas like your arms, abs, thighs, and calves—essentially anywhere you want sculpting or tension relief, with the exception of the neck and face. It takes about 10 minutes per session and shuts off automatically, so it’s super easy to incorporate into a post-shower or wind-down routine.

My Review

The very first night with my HigherDOSE Body Sculptor, I was fresh off a long workday and felt puffy, like I always do after sitting at my laptop all day. I slathered on the gel, turned the device to Level 2 (there are four total), and started slowly gliding it upwards over my thighs and glutes, where I’ve recently developed some mild cellulite.

It felt surprisingly spa-like: warm and gentle, but definitely doing something. I could feel a slight tingling sensation from the microcurrents—not painful, just noticeable. If you’ve ever tried NuFace, it feels like that, just on a larger surface area. After a few passes, my legs already felt lighter. That heavy, swollen feeling I started with? Gone. My cellulite on the front of my thighs was still definitely there, but it looked a tad more snatched and slightly pink, like I had just gotten a deep tissue massage.

The second night I used it, I repeated the exact same process but extended it up my arms along my biceps and triceps—and that’s when I really started to understand just how versatile this tool could be. I fly fish and had some soreness from casting, but gliding the device over those tired muscles felt like instant relief. As I slowly moved the sculptor upward in long, sweeping motions, I could feel a subtle release in the tension. The microcurrent added a barely-there tingle, and the red light gave the session an almost meditative vibe. After just a few minutes on each arm, the soreness had noticeably decreased, and my arms looked more defined and less puffy, especially near the underarm area where water retention tends to settle.

I’ve been using it consistently now, three to four nights a week, and the biggest change has been in my thighs. My cellulite isn’t totally gone (I’m not expecting miracles), but the area looks smoother, more toned, and—most importantly—feels less puffy. Same goes for the stretch marks on my butt. They’re def still there, but after sweeping them “away” with this device, my skin feels a tad tauter. And unlike other beauty devices and tech gadgets that feel like a chore to use, I actually enjoy this one. It’s become a soothing pre-bedtime ritual that relaxes me before going to bed—the lymphatic drainage is just the cherry on top.

One tip: Be generous with the gel. On nights I skimped, the microcurrent felt a little too zingy. The gel also leaves your skin soft and hydrated afterward, and a quick rinse gets rid of any residue. I haven’t run out yet, but I can tell I’ll need a refill sooner than later, especially because I tend to use more when working on larger areas like my thighs and glutes.

Final Thoughts

The HigherDOSE Body Sculptor has become a core part of my self-care routine because it works and feels good. The fact that I can smooth my skin, de-puff my limbs, and unwind after a long day, all while watching Netflix? That’s a win.

Is it a splurge? Yes. But considering how much a single lymphatic massage costs, this has paid for itself in a matter of weeks. It’s also compact enough to throw in your gym bag or carry-on for on-the-go relief. If you deal with stubborn puffiness, water retention, or visible cellulite, this tool might become your new favorite, too. It hasn’t replaced workouts or hydration in my wellness routine, but it’s enhanced both. I feel more sculpted, less bloated, and way more in tune with my body.
