Every year, a new water brand is set forth as the new status water bottle. (First, there was Fiji Water; then came Boxed Water, Blk Water, Voss, and Essentia…the list can go on.) Now, Saratoga water is having its moment. It all started when fitness TikToker Ashton Hall included bottles of Saratoga in a video of his bizarre, time-stamped, 5-hour-long morning routine. Sales for the water immediately skyrocketed, and Hall’s video became a viral moment.

The clip, which Hall captions, “the morning routine that changed my life,” now has over 106.5 million views. It begins at 3:52 a.m., when Hall brushes his teeth and uses a bottle of Saratoga water to rinse his mouth. That’s followed by other productive activities: doing push-ups on the balcony, journaling, sprinting on the treadmill, diving into a pool, showering, and eating breakfast. Of course, in between some of these tasks, Hall takes several gulps of Saratoga water and even uses a bottle of the spring water for a facial ice bath.

At the minimum, Hall goes through three 28-ounce water bottles in the span of the 5-hour-routine. (Three 28-ounce Saratoga water bottles have a retail value of about $12.) So of course, people had much to say about his water usage. “Bottled water to rinse is crazy,” one person commented, while another wrote, “This one is expensive.”

Despite its recent craze, Saratoga water is nowhere near new. The company was founded in 1872, and it’s commonly served in fine dining restaurants. Given its exclusive customer base, the water brand seems like it was destined to become a mainstream status symbol. I mean, the bottle itself is made of rPET, a type of plastic meant to emulate glass, and the bottle’s deep, alluringly blue tint exudes pure luxury.

Perhaps going through $12 worth of water in 5 hours isn’t the most sustainable. But hey, I guess it’s better than not drinking any water at all.
