Starbucks‘ holiday cups are something we eagerly await every year as the official start of the Christmas season. This year, the coffee giant added an extra pump of holiday magic with its unofficial countdown: an adorable and incredibly viral “Bearista” cup. The festive cup is designed for those who love sipping cold drinks in the winter (hello!). It features a glass base molded in the shape of a bear wearing a cozy knit hat, to keep warm while surrounded by all of that ice, of course.
To no one’s surprise, these cups sold out instantly—but there is a plot twist. Many stores only had a few in stock, making it even more difficult (and enticing) to get your hands on the coveted cups. This prompted some to believe it was a “marketing masterclass,” considering the attention it has provided the retailer, which recently announced plans to close hundreds of stores. “The outrage caused by the lack of availability and the high price tag has led to tens of thousands of views talking about Starbucks all across social media,” says Ali of @nate.andali on TikTok. “One of the real winners of Starbucks here is they get to act like the silly, pretty, popular girl, who doesn’t know how much everybody loves them,” Nate chimes in.
There may be some truth to these tactics. Starbucks appeared to test the waters with its first release and announced that it will introduce more holiday products in stores nationwide on December 2. However, there is no word on whether that includes the Starbucks bear cup—which is now selling on eBay for nearly $200—so we got impatient and tracked down a nearly identical dupe.
In addition to the Starbucks bear cup dupe, here are some other lookalikes you don’t have to wait in line for.
