If you feel like nothing really got done in 2015, it’s probably because the world was busy watching porn videos—lots and lots of porn videos. Don’t believe us? According to new data released by X-rated site PornHub, people around the world took in more than 87 billion videos, or about 4.3 billion hours of some good old-fashioned sex. Or, to put it in easier to grasp terms, that’s 12 videos watched for every person on earth (and, yes, that even means your grandma).
The insights offer a fascinating look at porn habits the world over (and we feel kind of bad for the data scientists who had to look into whether “MILF” ranked higher than “step mom”). Regardless, the good old United States of America accounted for nearly double the traffic of the next country, the U.K. Canada ranked third, followed by Ireland, New Zealand, and Norway—hey, it’s cold up there.

Last year was also a year of the “lesbian.” It was the most-searched term of 2015 and gained the most traffic between 2014 and 2015. Why? Psychologist and sex therapist Dr Laurie Betito, who gave her insight to the lengthy report, says it could be because women, much more so than men, are able to be aroused “by all kinds of sexual activity and imagery, whether they are gay or straight.”
And, it was the year that more women started to identify as bisexual or gender fluid. “It could be that the sexual acts they see on lesbian porn is what they favor (mostly cunnilingus), or simply that they get aroused to such a variety of imagery that it is difficult to pinpoint true desires versus what their bodies respond to.”
Other big boosts in traffic came from “celebrity sex tape” (Kim Kardashian is largely to thank for that one) and “giantess,” with a 1,091 percent gain from the year before. Wondering what a giantess is? That, the site helpfully explains, is “the depiction of a larger than life woman getting down with some very tiny men.” Well then.
