Between earthquakes, eclipses, and tsunami warnings, the world is in shambles lately. Every astrologer you know has been pointing it out, because they all predicted that April would be the most chaotic month of 2024. With 4.8 magnitude earthquake striking the Northeast (felt all the way from Philadelphia to Boston) right before a total solar eclipse on 4/8, you could make endless connections between the disasters on Earth and the disasters in the sky. If you’re wondering why it feels like there’s been one cataclysmic event after another, you have every reason to blame astrology.

Right now, we’re in the middle of eclipse season, a time that predicts major—and destined—changes that alter the course of our lives. Eclipses are always the harbinger of tensions coming to a head, paving the way for endings and beginnings. And with a total solar eclipse in Aries scheduled for April 8, 2024, everyone has been on the edge of their seat waiting for something “big” to happen.

Not only are you dealing with eclipses, but you’re also dealing with Mercury retrograde in Aries until April 25. Because Aries is a zodiac sign of drive, action, and power, this retrograde is increasing the odds that something chaotic is about to land in our laps. New York City never has earthquakes, but of course it has a big one when Mercury is retrograde during eclipse season. Aries doesn’t just inform you of something; it slaps you in the face with it. And right now, the news is anything but subtle.

However, the biggest reason astrologers have been predicting earthquakes and tsunamis during April has to do with planet Mars and planet Saturn. Right now, Mars—planet of conflict and aggression—is moving through Pisces, and on April 10, it will join forces with Saturn, planet of karma, boundaries, and infrastructure. Mars and Saturn are both considered “malefic” planets, making them the two most feared celestial bodies in astrology. And when they come together, they tend to cause carefully laid structures to crack, increasing the likelihood of natural disasters. And because Pisces represents the ocean, it’s not shocking to a well-informed astrologer that earthquakes are currently paving the way for tsunamis and cargo ships are colliding with bridges. After all, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on April 3, triggering major tsunami warnings. And on March 26—just one day after a penumbral lunar eclipse in Libra—Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being struck by a massive cargo ship. These disasters all have one thing in common—they’re somehow involved with bodies of water.

Another alignment will also likely encourage more earthquakes—the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction on April 20. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and Uranus is the planet of sudden changes, making the energy very frenetic and unpredictable for the next few weeks. And because this conjunction occurs in Taurus—the fixed earth sign—you can expect the ground beneath you to feel more unsteady than usual.

What does this all mean? Is the world coming to an end? No, it’s not, but these events are pointing out weak spots in the structures that uphold our societies, forcing us to do damage control. They’re also revealing that we are never impervious to disaster, because human beings are vulnerable to the whims of the natural world. And while understanding astrology can’t always protect us from the inevitable, it can allow us to mentally prepare and help us understand why—and how—things can go wrong.

As the Northeastern United States deals with the aftereffects of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake right before a total solar eclipse on 4/8, one thing is for sure—not everything is a coincidence.
