Aaron has been married to wife Sam, with the two changing their last names to the same hyphenated last name, Taylor-Johnson, for twelve years. The two married in 2012. Their marriage has been subject to considerable controversy due to their considerable age gap and the fact that they met when Aaron was quite young, with Samantha Taylor-Johnson being 57 years old to Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s 34.
The two met on the set of Nowhere Boy when Aaron Taylor-Johnson was 18, which has added to the controversy. Samantha Taylor-Johnson was 42 at the time.
“What you gotta realize is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13,” Aaron Taylor Johnson told Rolling Stone UK in an interview discussing their age gap. “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me,” he added. He has similarly talked about how their relationship works and has stepped out with his wife and his family for premieres and special occasions.
Sam, meanwhile, told The Guardian in April that the noise comes from strangers. “It comes up on the outside perspective of people who don’t know us,” she said. “We’re a bit of an anomaly, but it’s that thing: after 14 years you just think, surely by now, it doesn’t really matter?”
The two are parents to daughters Wylda, 13, and Romy Hero, 11. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also a stepdad to Samantha’s kids from her previous marriage: Angelica and Jessie.
