Simon Konecki (2011-2019)
Simon Konecki, a British entrepreneur and CEO of the nonprofit Drop4Drop, captured Adele’s heart for nearly a decade. The pair started dating in 2011, and things got serious pretty quickly, with Konecki accompanying Adele to the 54th Grammy Awards in February 2012. Just months later, the lovebirds welcomed their son Angelo into the world in October 2012.
Despite calling Simon her “husband” at the 2017 Grammys, she later revealed to British Vogue that they didn’t actually tie the knot until 2018. “The timeline the press have of my relationship, my marriage, is actually completely wrong,” she told the magazine in 2021. “We got married when I was 31… and then I left.” As Adele explained, their marriage was short lived—the pair ultimately separated in 2019 and finalized their divorce in 2020.
Konecki and Adele continue to share custody of their son Angelo and maintain a good relationship. Adele opened up to Vogue about the split, saying, “I was just going through the motions and I wasn’t happy. Neither of us did anything wrong.”
“It just wasn’t right for me any more. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew,” she added. “I wasn’t miserable miserable, but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first. But, yeah, nothing bad happened or anything like that.”
For Adele, ending her marriage with Konecki was about creating the space for an even greater love. “I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me,” she explained. “I’ve been on my journey to find my true happiness ever since.”
