“The perfect pair of winter boots combines an ideal fit, comfort, insulation, and winter-approved design elements. Boots in a proper fit allow you to wear thicker socks, while the cushioning and arch support make them comfortable enough to wear all day long,” shares Peter Martinez, Co-Founder and Fashion Stylist/Designer at Leather Skin Shop.
You should also look for boots with a sturdy outsole for good traction, as surfaces tend to be slippery during the cold weather. “The insulation level and material of the boots hold significance as this is what retains the heat, keeping your feet warm. For regular winter boots, 800-gram insulation works well, while you can go up to 1200-gram or more for snow and ice boots. Choose a good quality conditioner to ensure lasting results. Another tip is to use cedar shoe trees and acid-free paper to store the boots. This helps maintain the shape and look of your winter boots and avoids creasing for long, especially if you opted for mid-range budget footwear.”
Avent recommends maintaining winter boots by taking them to the shoe repair shop or cobbler. “I get a protectant spray when I purchase UGGs or any suede boots.”

Another tip he shared is to buy from outlet stores, as they typically offer products at lower prices than regular retail stores.
“Check the brand’s sizing guide and read reviews for insights on comfort and fit. Reading other customers’ reviews is the most helpful! Look for padded insoles and arch support—especially for all-day wear,” says Rowder. “Materials matter, too: leather and suede soften and stretch over time, while stiffer materials might need breaking in.
