Adapted from the Pulitzer Award-winning novel, All The Light We Cannot See is Netflix’s latest historical mini-series that’s an absolute tearjerker. The movie stars Louis Hofmann as Werner Pfennig, a German soldier, and Aria Mia Loberti as Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a blind French teenage girl.

The story follows Marie-Laure and her father Daniel LeBlanc (played by Mark Ruffalo), who escape Nazi Germany with a precious diamond that the Nazis are seeking. They settle in St. Malo with an estranged uncle, where they take up residence with a reclusive uncle who transmits clandestine radio broadcasts as part of the resistance. Marie-Laure’s part crosses with Werner who has a gift to track down illegal broadcasts for the Nazis. The two bond over their faith in humanity and the possibility of hope.

Aria Mia Loberti is a newcomer in the Hollywood scene as the Netflix series is the first acting job she pursued. “I didn’t know what she had acted in, I didn’t know what her training was, all I knew is that there was a combination of intelligence, which was extremely self-evident, and a luminous quality on camera,” director Shawn Levy told Town and Country. “I later found out that not only was she new to acting—she had never even auditioned before—and she was in fact a Fulbright scholar who was pursuing her PhD in rhetoric. I found a needle in the haystack, and I found it in the most unlikely of places.”

Here’s what Aria Mia Loberti had to say about bringing a blind character to the small screen and if she’s blind in real life.
