Jeans and boots are like wardrobe soulmates. And, with so many different styles and silhouettes available, there are tons of ways to wear the look. You can go all-out with Western festival outfits and rock a pair of bootcut jeans over cowboy boots, or achieve a more business casual look with cuffed wide-leg denim over pointy high-heeled boots. But with so many different combinations available, it might be tricky to hone in on the best jeans to wear with boots—so I did the work for you.
Jeans and boots are one of my favorite style combinations, and as a fashion editor, I have spent years researching the best jeans to wear with boots. Because, as it turns out, it’s not just about the style but also about the material, drapery, and fit. Ahead, find some of my favorite picks from brands like Good American, Levi’s, Abercrombie & Fitch, Wrangler, and more.
While styles have certainly transformed since their initial functional origins, both jeans and boots have a more tactile purpose—so they’re essentially made for eachother. For the most part, bootcut, straight, wide-leg, and baggy jeans work best over boots, though some stylists and influencers wear them tucked in to create a more fashion-forward bunching effect. You can also tuck in more slim-fitting styles like tapered straight-leg jeans, skinny jeans, and even some barrel jeans (the Quince Bella Stretch Barrel Jeans look so cute with ankle booties).
It’s more than okay to wear skinny jeans with boots. Not only are these jeans currently on their comeback tour, but skinny jeans are also one of the best jeans to wear tucked into boots if you don’t want that bunched look. If you’re not quite ready to welcome skinny jeans back into your wardrobe, you can also opt for a slim-fitting, straight jeans style, like the Universal Thread Mid-Rise 80’s Slim Fit Ankle Jeans from Target.

The aesthetics of different sports always come in and out of style. There was tennis when Challengers was out. There was ballet core. There seems to be a new equestrian trend. I’m not entirely sure what this one is, but I kind of dig it. A long knee high sneaker that is nothing like the Converse XXHi Tops.
