The beach is one of the dreamiest places for a wedding and offers a fun excuse to take inspiration from the ocean, sand, and sunset for your beach wedding look. Whether you’re getting married or invited to the nuptials, no look is complete without jewelry.

Up ahead, we share the best jewelry for beach weddings, plus expert advice for what types of jewelry to shop for.

Best Type of Jewelry for Beach Weddings

When shopping for jewelry for beach weddings, don’t be afraid to stick with the theme. For brides, Mike Cooke, the founder of jewelry brand Sterling Forever, says to go with dainty pearls, elevated pearls with incorporated diamonds, and more minimalistic styles, like a classic pair of Pearl Stud Earrings. As for guests, Cooke recommends baroque pearls and shell-inspired jewelry. Kristy Cullinane, the co-founder of of Plum Diamonds, says you can also draw inspiration from the natural surroundings and opt for pink styles to compliment the sunset. “I love adding a little color that echoes the environment, such as blues, greens, and, of course, pink,” she notes.

What Type of Jewelry to Avoid at a Beach Wedding

From a style standpoint, Cooke says brides should avoid chunky, larger pieces and that less is more for a beach setting. “Lighter pieces will keep you cooler if it’s a warm climate,” he adds. And, if your hair is down, avoid long dangle earrings so the wind doesn’t cause your hair to get tangled in your jewelry. Cooke says that guests should avoid anything too flashy and try to stay away from constricting jewelry that might cause irritation in a warm climate.

It’s also worth checking your jewelry to ensure the clasps are all functioning properly before you hit the sand. “Double check that your clasps are working and rings fit properly; we can’t tell you how many clients unfortunately lose jewelry at the beach,” says Cullinane. “If it falls off, it can be extremely hard, if not impossible, to find.”
