Billie Eilish’s Oscars 2024 Look Is Giving Goth School Principal Barbie

Billie Eilish is at the 2024 Oscars for her song, “What Was I Made For,” but as a red carpet darling, Billie Eilish’s Oscars 2024 look had to be a winner. Billie came to the Oscars in Chanel: a fitted black blazer with a pressed white shirt and a black and white tweed midi skirt. She’s also wearing an Artists for Ceasefire pin on her lapel.

No young starlet has created a ubiquitous style image for themselves quite like Eilish. Rather than trying to follow fashion trends, she seems to invent her own. Rather than trying to win the attention of the fashion industry, she seems have just completely influenced the way a new generation of people style themselves. When she dyes her hair, fashion-forward young people move like the Red Sea. If she posts a photo of her dresser, they’re zooming in, making like Nancy Drew until they figure out what perfume she’s bought. And well. When it comes to clothes, so soon into her career and her sartorial sense is already written in stone in a viral rap song, Armani White’s “BILLIE EILISH.” You the line: “Bitch, I’m stylish. Glock tucked, big t-shirt Billie Eilish.”

What this means for Billie Eilish’s red carpet appearances is that she’s got the baggage of a crowd’s expectations before she even shows up. And what does with those expectations, whether she leans into them, punches them up, or subverts them completely is the entire game. Just when you get used to the baggy shirt and shorts on the runway, she stars wearing corsets, and just when you get used to that, she pivots to the rockstar dress shirt and tie with glasses.
