Britney Spears Reveals She Had An Abortion During Her Relationship with Justin Timberlake

By far the biggest revelation in The Woman in Me, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were together from 1998 to 2002 after their stint on The Mickey Mouse Club together. Britney revealed that she was pregnant with his baby during the relationship, but decided to get an abortion.

“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young,” she wrote, though Justin hasn’t made a public statement on the matter.

Britney Spears Was Almost Cast In The Notebook

When Britney Spears starred in Crossroads, she was also one of the runner-ups to star the 2004 hit The Notebook.

“The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on the Mickey Mouse Club, I’m glad I didn’t do it,” she wrote. “If I had, instead of working on my album In the Zone I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night.”

In 2007, Britney made headlines by shaving her hair. By the time that her conservatorship started, she had to grow it out.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up,” she wrote. “I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back. But under the conservatorship I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.”

She also disclosed that her father would body shame her under the conservatorship. “If I thought getting criticized about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father. He repeatedly told me I looked fat and that I was going to have to do something about it,” she revealed. “I would do little bits of creative stuff here and there, but my heart wasn’t in it anymore. As far as my passion for singing and dancing, it was almost a joke at that point.”

In the book, Britney detailed her true feelings under her 13-year-long conservatorship where she felt like a “childlike robot.” “The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”

She continued, “If they’d let me live my life, I know I would’ve followed my heart and come out of this the right way and worked it out.

Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself. I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long and it makes me feel sick.”

According to the copy of The Woman In Me obtained by AP, Spears said a “SWAT team” burst into a bathroom where she was holding 16-month-old son Jayden, instead of returning him to Federline as required. The moment in January 2008 resulted in her being hospitalized on a 72-hour psychiatric hold and was a major incident in the establishment of the infamous conservatorship.

She felt that her ex, Federline, and his lawyers were keeping her kids from her for longer and longer periods of time. She had already put two-year-old Sean Preston in the car of a security guard who had come to get him when she became “terrified that I wouldn’t get the kids again if I gave them back.” That’s when she fled to the bathroom.

“I just couldn’t let him go. I didn’t want anyone taking my baby,” she writes. “Before I knew what was happening, a SWAT team in black suits burst through the bathroom door as if I’d hurt someone.”

According to the Associated Press, Justin Timberlake broke up with Britney via text while making his 2002 solo album Justified. “He started being very standoffish with me. I think that was because he’d decided to use me as ammunition for his record, and so it made it awkward for him to be around me staring at him with all that affection and devotion,” she writes.
