Show your purple heart. BTS fan chants are a fun way to display your love for the group. ARMY’s voices are heard from every corner, and it’s quite simply an amazing sight to see and hear.

Bangtan Sonyeondan, better known as BTS or The Bangtan Boys, debuted in 2013 with members RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. The boyband captured the hearts of millions with their fanbase affectionately called ARMY, which stands for Adorable Representative MC of Youth. The K-pop group’s accomplishments catapulted them to the top of the Billboard Charts, two Grammy nominations and multiple American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards wins. They were also named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year 2020. In 2022, BTS released an anthology album of their nearly decade-long career called Proof

The album coincided with their concert in Busan, South Korea, as a part of Busan’s World Expo 2030 bid. The free concert was held at the Asiad Main Stadium, with approximately 50,000 people in attendance on October 15, 2022. It was the first concert as seven after they announced that the band would be taking a break so that the members could enlist in Korea’s mandatory military service. j-hope performed at Lollapalooza in August of that year, as the first South Korean soloist to perform at the festival, and kicked off the string of successful solo releases by each member.

The movie is explosive with enticing performances with BTS classics like “MIC DROP,” “Dope,” “Run,” and “Idol” as well as newer hits like “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment).” “It feels a little strange to be in my hometown,” Jimin said during the concert, who with fellow member Jung Kook, hails from the second biggest city in South Korea. He then shouted, “Welcome to my city, let’s go!” while introducing “Ma City” which is an ode to each member’s respective hometowns.

When I first got into BTS as a baby ARMY, I was very curious about what fans were shouting at the beginning of songs like “Boy With Luv” or “MIC Drop” during performances on Korean music shows like MNet Countdown or Music Bank. Turns out these were fan chants of the members’ names, which amplify the fans’ love when they’re on stage. In fact, almost every K-Pop group has a fan chant that consists of the group and members’ names and is formulaic and intertwined with their comeback singles.

I attended my first BTS concert at Permission To Dance LA in 2021 and I was stunned by tens of thousands of ARMY shouting the fan chant in unison and proudly waving their ARMY Bomb light stick. And it was constant— even after every song and during the downtime before the encore, everyone was basking in the fan chant in every section of SoFi Stadium. Now every time I listen to a BTS song, I quietly say the fan chants under my breath or yell it in my mind.

With the release of BTS: Yet To Come on Prime Video, it’s a great opportunity to learn fan chants and see the enormous volume of ARMY’s love for the band. Here’s the fan chant below.
