When Paul Mescal stepped out at Gucci’s show during Milan Fashion Week, his look went viral. Collared shirt unbuttoned at both the top and the button, loafers with long socks, and teeny shorts that sent social media into a tailspin. Welcome to the summer of slutty shorts, the internet declared.
Mescal is “a fan of the short inseam,” he told GQ, adding, “From my eye, it’s to do with proportion; a shorter short with maybe a longer top. I’m a big advocate for men wearing shorter shorts.”
Short shorts on men have been in and out of men’s fashion for decades. Tom Selleck, of Magnum PI fame, was a huge fan; so was Sean Connery, the inarguably best James Bond. But it goes beyond celebrities in short shorts. On TikTok, hundreds of videos have been posted at #inseam and #5inseam.
Most of the videos are posted by women, claiming they would never date the perfect man if he wore shorts longer than 5.5 inches. If you’re tempted to take the plunge into this rather timeless trend, here are some celebrity men in short shorts to inspire you.
