Meet Céline Dion’s 3 Kids—They’re the ‘Light’ Helping Her Through Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis

René-Charles “RC” Angélil

René-Charles “RC” Angélil is Céline Dion and René Angélil’s oldest child. He was born on January 25, 2001, in Loxahatchee, Florida, via IVF.

Dion gives a lot of trust to her eldest, telling Lorraine in 2019, “As any teenager, they have to try things because if you say no to so many things ― they will turn around and still do them. So I am giving him more space. I trust him. He does stuff sometimes that I have to say, not necessarily agree with what he chooses to try, but as long as he’s using his intelligence and his mind and brain, I trust him.” 

RC delivered a poignant eulogy during his father’s funeral in 2016 at Notre-Dame Basilica. “You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers,” he said. “As they grow older, without you being around, I’ll make sure to pass on what I’ve learned from you. You are a tough act to follow, but with your help, everything’s gonna be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we’re all going to live up to your standards.”

Following in his parents’ footsteps, RC became a musician and producer. He released his debut EP CasiNo.5 in 2021. Celine gushed about her son’s accomplishments on X, “I’m so proud of my son. My love for him is so strong, and it touches me deeply that one of his passions is also one of mine.”

He also accompanied his mom on stage at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony and at the premiere of I Am: Céline Dion in New York City.

Eddy Angélil

Eddy Angélil was born on October 23, 2010, in Palm Beach, Florida alongside his twin brother Nelson. He was named after René and Céline’s longtime producer Eddy Marnay. “He was like a father to her. Eddy is a major influence in both Céline and René’s lives,” Céline’s rep said.

Eddy and Nelson were only 5 years old when their father died. Though they were young, Céline still has ways for her sons to give tribute to him. “We have a little ritual where we say goodnight to him with a little picture,” she told PEOPLE. “Then the kids talk to him. And they write words, put them in balloons and we send the balloons to the sky.”

Céline also told the outlet that her kids are well-equipped if she has a medical emergency. “They saw a crisis — we explained it, we played it frame by frame. When I make a sound, or when I don’t make a sound, and what can they do because they’re 13 years old,” she says. “They can help me out even if I don’t communicate verbally because I can’t produce a sound.”

Nelson Angélil

Nelson was born on October 23, 2010, in Palm Beach, Florida alongside his twin brother Eddy. He was named after Nelson Mandela, who Céline had met before. “Céline and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men,” her rep said.

When the two were born, the singer could differentiate her sons easily. “Nelson seems to have a little stronger personality right now. He’s the tougher of the two,” she told Hello!. “They are fraternal twins, but they look very alike. Nelson weighed more at the birth, but the doctor told us in a week or two, they’re going to be the same.”

Céline takes pride in her sons and she’s gushed over how thoughtful they are throughout her diagnosis. She told People, “They’re so amazing because I would say 15 minutes or so every night, they come and they say, ‘Mom,’ and I say, ‘Yes?’ [They say], ‘It’s just because it’s been a little longer than you usually take when you clean up at night before bedtime. We just want to make sure you’re fine.’ This is our lives now: We care for each other, and they’re so helpful.”
