How did Courteney Cox react to Matthew Perry’s death?
Like we said, Courteney Cox’s reaction to Matthew Perry’s death was understandable considering how close they became thanks to their time on Friends. On November 14, 2023, she shared one of her favorite moments on Friends with her on-screen love interest. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she wrote in the caption. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”
The scene was the first glimpse into Monica and Chandler’s love story as they were hiding from her brother Ross. “To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.
In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say.
He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️”
James Burrows, who directed 15 episodes of the show over the years, messaged Cox, Kudrow and Aniston on the day news of Perry’s death broke. “They were destroyed. It’s a brother dying,” he told Today on November 2, 2023.
Perry’s death was first reported by TMZ, which stated that he was found unresponsive in a hot tub on October 28, 2023. “I had to have a couple of days to just let it soak in,” the director continued. “He was part of a family, and he was the first one to not be part of that family anymore.”
Aniston, Kudrow and Cox along with Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer shared a joint tribute in the days after Perry’s death. “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” the cast shared in a statement to Us Weekly. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
