Dakota Johnson’s dating history is an alluring mystery, for the most part. The Materialist actress is pretty private about her personal life, but now that her breakup with Coldplay’s frontman is final, she’s laying down her truths.
In an interview with Elle UK, the Fifty Shades of Grey star got candid about she lands in her love life. “I’ve never dated anybody,” she confessed. I’ve had boyfriends, but I have never been on a dating app. I just don’t know that world. So, it was so interesting and intriguing. It’s the most beautiful side of humanity, but it can also be the most ugly. Loving someone is the most scary and beautiful thing you can do.”

As for what she’s looking for in a partner, she revealed the one thing on the Today show. “Like, not an a–hole,” she told co-star Chris Evans, to which he replied, “That’s concise! There it is! Nail on the head.”

She talked about her relationship in an interview with Elle, “We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private,” the actress said. “Most of the partying takes place inside my house.”
Martin first opened up about the relationship when he was talking to Conan O’Brien about a gift she gave him. “Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this,” the singer said. “It’s kind of like body armor that you put on. It connects to the bass.”
The two became engaged in March 2024, but were the subject of breakup rumors that August. The couple called it quits in June 2025.
