You probably think of the months from September through January as fall and winter, and obviously, you’re not wrong. I, however, prefer to think of the chilly half of the year as denim season. Forget pumpkin spice lattes (I’m kidding, I would never), the second the temperature starts to drop below 80 degrees, I’m pulling my jeans out. I’m relieved to report that baggy denim is still the denim to be wearing in the fall and winter of 2023. Sorry skinny jeans, you’re not back in style just yet (though I’m sure the time will eventually come). While you can still wear a simple pair of baggy jeans, the trend has taken on new formats for a fresh fall look. Carpenter jeans and balloon pants are two of the newest trendy silhouettes to join the baggy jeans family. Both styles are the epitome of cool comfort, so there’s really no excuse not to give them a try. 

If you’re already a street style expert, you’ll know that denim skirts have already been a major trend for 2023. You can expect to see the polarizing style continue to dominate your Instagram feed this fall and winter but with a twist. A-line silhouettes and midi hemlines are joining the denim skirt trend group chat. 

Another controversial trend to make the shortlist—or should I say “jort list”—are jorts. A jort can be defined as a pair of long denim shorts and whether you like it or not, the cool kids are wearing them. If you need outfit inspiration, I recommend searching for pictures of Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid in the short style. 

And finally, you can’t have a successful fall and winter denim season without a rendezvous with a Canadian tuxedo. Pair your favorite denim jacket trend with your denim skirt or jeans for a not-so-formal ‘fit.
