He was considered one of the NFL’s most promising upcoming quarterbacks, but Deshaun Watson is out for the season after suffering an injury in the Cleveland Browns’ win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, November 12, 2023. The athlete managed to take the game to its finish but notified medical staff of pain in two places after he left the field.

Watson was born on September 14, 1995, in Gainesville, Georgia. Attending Gainesville High School, he threw for more than 13,000 yards and 155 touchdowns and set the Georgia state record for total offense and total touchdowns by the end of his junior season. The team also won their first state title in more than 100 years.

Watson then played college football at Clemson University from 2014 to 2016 and took the team to a national championship victory in the 2016 season, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide and he quickly became the face of college football. “Believe it or not, it’s what I wanted from when I was a kid playing the game,” he told Bleacher Report in 2016. “I watched Tim Tebow and how he played and how he carried himself and the good that he did for the game on and off the field. I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I’m really comfortable with it; I enjoy it and everything that comes with it.”

Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2021, signing a fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million deal with the Browns, making it the largest contract and most guaranteed money in NFL history. He didn’t play all of 2020 after 22 women accused him of sexual misconduct during massage appointments in civil lawsuits—two grand juries declined to charge him criminally and thus all but one civil lawsuit was settled and he was suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 season.

Rejoining the NFL in week 13, Watson threw for just 131 yards and one interception, the worst passer rating of his career. In 2023, the Browns would go on to win 6 games and lose 3, placing them 3rd in the AFC North Standings before Deshaun Watson went out for the season. Here’s what we know.
