Verse 1
You’re so dumb and poetic
It’s just what I fall for, I like the aesthetic
Every self-help book, you’ve already read it
Cherry-pick lines like they’re words you invented
Gold star for highbrow manipulation
And “love everyone” is your favorite quotation
Try to come off like you’re soft and well-spoken
Jack off to lyrics by Leonard Cohen
- In 2020, Shawn Mendes admitted that he read a copious amounts of self-help books after a tumultuous year “It is a psychological head-fuck,” he told The Guardian about criticism and the way he views himself. “It completely is, and that’s after three therapists and 55 self-help books plus meditation and exercise and life experience and all of the things I’ve been working through for the last year and a half.”
- The latter half of the verse refers to the subject’s behavior of trying to be wise by listening to Leonard Cohen, and trying to come off as put together. Shawn recently covered Cohen’s hit song “Hallelujah” during his comeback in London. Cohen is also Canadian like Mendes.
