Colorful and Unique Gemstones
Diamonds are a gorgeous centerpiece for any engagement ring, but in 2025, Nido-Ruso says couples are moving away from the traditional look and exploring alternative engagement ring stones. “Sapphires, emeralds, and various colored gems are becoming more and more popular,” she notes. “People are looking for unique alternatives to traditional engagement rings, and with colored gemstones, you can really let your personality and personal style shine.” While not all gemstones are created equally some are almost as durable as diamonds, with a hardness of 10. “Ruby and sapphires have a hardness of nine and topaz—which comes in a rainbow of colors—has a hardness level of eight, making these stones scratch-resistant and perfect for alternative engagement rings,” Nido-Russo notes.
