According to Nido-Russo, these diamonds have the same physical and chemical makeup as natural Earth-mined diamonds, and they can be up to 40 percent less expensive than Earth-mined diamonds, too. “To put it bluntly, lab-grown diamonds have the same sparkle and durability and are indistinguishable from mined diamonds.”

The price isn’t the full reason why some are opting for lab-grown diamonds, though. Since they are more budget-friendly, this allows couples to purchase a much larger and better-quality stone than they might be able to afford when shopping for Earth-mined or natural diamonds. “You can get a higher quality lab-grown diamond for a lot less than a lower quality Earth-mined diamond,” says Nido-Russo. “They are becoming popular for engagement rings for this reason.”
