Fair Play’s Shocking Ending Explained—‘The [Spoiler] Is the Real Mic Drop’

Still reeling in from it, tbh.
Fair Play
Netflix

Spoilers ahead for Fair Play. Fair Play‘s ending might need an explanation with all of the larger and broader themes surrounding the thriller film. Netflix’s latest movie stars Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich as Emily and Luke, a couple who hide their relationship from the hedge fund company which they both work for. Jealousy and ego ultimately lead to the demise of their relationship.

Director Chloe Domont elaborated to Rolling Stone about how the film came about. ” It came from that feeling I was having at a certain point in my life when my success, or any moments of accomplishment I had, didn’t feel like a win,” she said. “It felt like a loss. And it was because the men I was dating at the time felt threatened by me in some way. This is never anything I’ve spoken about. It just felt like me being big on some level equated to them feeling small.”

We meet Emily and Luke as a precious young couple. Luke proposes to Emily at his brother’s wedding. They have sex in the bathroom and Emily’s on her period (more on that later). When Emily gets the promotion that Luke wants, everything goes south for the couple. Tensions arise at the workplace and culminate in a deep and threatening confrontation between the two. So what happened during Fair Play‘s ending? Read more to find out.
